NPO CONVERSATION
vegetablesWe invite leaders of nonprofit organizations to join us each quarter for a brown-bag lunch discussion about issues, ideas, and concerns in the nonprofit and philanthropic community.

The meetings are a time for us to “talk shop” and move beyond the usual conversation between foundations and nonprofit organizations. Each session focuses on a particular topic. Guests will learn a little about GMA and a lot about their peers’ perspectives on important issues.

Next NPO Conversation: Thursday, June 4, 2015
Advance registration is required; scroll down for details.

Topic for Conversation: Family Economic Well-being

We are all too familiar with discouraging reports of income and wealth inequality, stagnating wages, and the restructuring of the global economy to the disadvantage of ordinary working folks. However, within this troubling context, we know that many nonprofits are working with very low-income families with imaginative programs that are anything but downbeat.

We’d like to hear those stories.

For this quarter’s NPO Conversation, we invite leaders of organizations involved in creating pathways for family economic well-being to join us for a brown bag lunch. The discussion is open to the Executive Director or Director of a program focused on any area of activity that leads to economic security and a family’s success: finances, jobs, education, health, housing, public policy.

Our informal conversation will be organized around a few questions, similar to these:

  • What is your theory of change? Is education really ‘the way out of poverty?’ Are there other commonly-held beliefs about the path to success with which you agree or disagree?
  • What are your measures of success; have those changed in the past few years?
  • How do you overlap, interact and collaborate with other family-facing organizations?
  • What legislative change is needed right now?

Please bring your experiences, ideas and a brown bag lunch to GMA’s 9th floor, 77 Summer Street on Thursday, June 4 from 12n to 1:30pm. We’ll provide refreshments and dessert.

Attendance is limited to seven organizations with one representative per organization, preferably the executive director or director of a major program. Contact jsneath@gmafoundations.com to reserve your spot. We look forward to our conversation.
